Scholarship Description
The Nigeria LNG Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, launched in October 2012, is an overseas programme aimed at supporting the emergence of indigenous experts, professionals or entrepreneurs especially; but not exclusively, within the oil and gas industry. 

The post graduate scholarship program is part of NLNG’s Community Development programme which aims to contribute to long-term socio-economic development in its host communities and Nigeria at large.

Eligibility
Potential beneficiaries of the programme must possess a 2nd Class Upper degree and above in their first degree in a relevant field of study; and have completed the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme.

Eligible groups
Graduates of Nigerian origin from NLNG host communities, Rivers State and the rest of Nigeria residing in Nigeria, and who wish to study abroad.

NOTE that 70% of the Scholarship places will be awarded to students who hail from NLNG Host Communities and Rivers State(pdf). 30% of the Scholarship places will be awarded to students from other parts of Nigeria.

Participating Institutions
All leading universities in the United Kingdom.

NOTE that the Scheme is still in the early stages and will focus on institutions of excellence in the UK in this initial phase. The Scheme will be reviewed at the end of its second year and institutions in other countries may be considered depending on outcome of the evaluation. 

Fields of study
A wide range of courses will be covered, including those listed below:

  1. Geosciences (Geophysics, Geology)
  2. Engineering (Petroleum Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Subsea Engineering, Chemical Engineering)
  3. Law (the various specialist areas)
  4. Medicine (the various specialist areas)
  5. Environmental Studies
  6. Management Sciences (Economics, Accountancy, Banking & Finance
  7. Information Technology

Number of Awards
The scheme will commence in September 2013 and will support 10 studentswith scholarships to pursue various studies in the fields mentioned above.

Scholarship benefits
The Scholarship will cover full tuition fees, a monthly stipend towards living expenses and, one return ticket from Nigeria to the United Kingdom.

Method of Application
British Council Nigeria is responsible for administering the scholarships and is the main point of contact for the scheme.

Completed Application Forms(doc), along with a scanned coloured passport photograph of the applicant should be submitted via email tonlngpgscholarship@ng.britishcouncil.org.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only applications submitted through the above email will be considered. Exceptions will only be given to applicants with ‘special needs’.

Selection Process:
From the applications received, a short listing exercise will hold to select applicants who will be invited to sit an aptitude test. On the basis of the results of the test, applicants will be invited for interviews from which the final selection will be made.

Application deadline is 12 noon on Friday, 16th November 2012. Applications submitted after this time will not be accepted.
